Skopje is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Macedonia. The main square, Macedonia Square, it is literally covered in statues. It is almost like the inspiration for this area of the city was a trip to Las Vegas and it was constructed with the “idea” of antiquity but with a cheap newness that overrides this. The exaggerated statues reek of a desperate want of authenticity, which is sorely lacking.
