Video Project – Composition in Video
This project was designed as a quick challenge for students to think about compositional elements and framing in the video context. Students were re-familiarized with shot compositions and framing techniques and then form small groups. As a group they were tasked with using the compositional element “Rule of Thirds” to shoot at least five different shot frames that illustrated a chosen color and feeling.
As a class we reviewed framing and composition by watching a YouTube video and then the Types of Shots video that I created. We watched a couple of project exemplars. Students got into small groups of no more than four students, picked a color and feeling, and then the project parameters were reviewed. Students were challenged with shooting with for only 20 minutes and finishing editing by the end of the class period. The following class we reviewed the work and had a small critique of each video.
