Video Project – Itten’s Color Contrasts

Project Description

In this project students are introduced to the basics of Color Theory & Itten’s Seven Color Contrasts. Students break into small groups and are given one of the seven contrasts to learn about in more depth and share back with the class via an informational video. Each group produces three artifacts to include in their video; written, existing visual artifact, and a created visual artifact.

Project Steps

The project began students breaking into pairs and being given one of Itten’s Color Contrasts. Each group was required to create three artifacts of evidence that they understood the concept & to use these in their videos. Students used the Color Theory Research Guide document and written research resources to begin by creating their written artifact. Here each group defined the contrast and gave examples of antonyms and synonyms. The group members then moved onto the second step where they had to find at least three examples that illustrate historically what painters have done using this contrast. In the next step they were tasked with creating at least one example in either photoshop or illustrator that shows this color contrast. Lastly, they put that all together into a video that would be shared with the class.
